Things to do in McAlester

While I most definitely want to see everyone at Steampunk Stampede there is no need to wait as there is so much more to do. Located on the historic Jefferson Highway you will find Old Town, which is home to the McAlester House and the original McAlester Mercantile. If antiques are your interest this is the place to be as there are several antique shops located here that have a wide variety of antiques. Anyway, you choose to look at it a trip to Old Town is a definite worthwhile trip.
Moving back into the Railroad District which host Steampunk Stampede there is no shortage of locations to visit. Starting with
Pink Pop located at 30E. Choctaw be sure to stop by and grab a tasty Gelato and browse through the rest of the store and see what you might find. A few steps down the street at 101 E Choctaw is the Rustic Lady which contains Art by local artist along with jams, salsas, cupcakes and so much more that you might want to visit it twice to see what you missed the first time. Moving down the road just a bit to 200 E. Choctaw you will find Crickets Emporium McAlester's own costume shop which also offers old fashion candy and assorted novelties. Just across the road at 119 N2nd Street is Destiny's Eclectic Treasures which is a truly fitting name as you will find blacklight posters, Chrystal figures, incense and so much more. By now you may have worked up an appetite and that will easily be taken care of with a visit to The Compass which can be found at119 E Choctaw and enjoy some wood fired pizza or one of the many entrees they have to offer not to mention the appetizers which would make a meal all alone.
